THE vibrant Easter celebrations Guyanese-style on Monday saw thousands from all walks of life engaging in family-oriented activities, which included kite flying and picnicking.
This newspaper spoke at various kite flying venues with persons who were delighted to share how they were spending their day, and how this year’s celebrations differed from the celebrations of last year.

JOYCE KING: “This is my third visit for Easter to Guyana, and I love Easter! I will always come back because Easter is just how I remember when I was small, and I am the only person here that bought a kite to fly. So I am having a great day; I am looking forward to coming again next year.”
YASHPAUL SEWNARINE: “I have noticed that we are having a lot more turnouts than last year; the only problem is that the parking facility is limited. However, the weather is good, the atmosphere is

nice, the place is safe, and everything…but just better provision for parking is needed.
But, generally, I am enjoying the day with my family and this little bundle of joy!”

JEHANNE ANDERSON: “I am 20 years old, and I flew a kite for the first time in my life; so it was pretty exciting. But then, my kite landed in a tree. The atmosphere is good though, and I think I’m getting fat today. The road is busy too. So it is generally a good Easter.”
TERRENCE VALLADARES: “I haven’t been home for Easter in 34 years, and it’s lovely for me; I like it. These are my family (members), and we are having a great time!”

ROCQUELLE RAYMON: “So far, I am having a lovely day. The weather is not too hot; it is cool, and there is a great turnout of families. I think we

have a lot more kites than last year, and it is very good.
“ It is a great turnout because I am seeing a lot of families; and it is good seeing families turning out to events like these. So yes, it is a better year to me.”
VANESSA GRIFFITH: “So far, the day is going OK. I’m here with my family, friends and the kids, and they’re just flying their kites. To me though, last year was better than this year in terms of having more kites and people. I don’t know if, as the day progresses, we are going to see more families turning out and more kites. But it is generally a good Easter, and I am having fun!”

SHERLANDA GAYRAL: “Well, my day is going good so far. I am enjoying it with my family and friends.

Compared to last year, I think this year is better, because more families came out and they’re just enjoying themselves.
“Everybody is picnicking and flying their kites and so. I don’t think there (are as many) kites as last year though, probably because of the weather.”
ELISSA RYCE: “This year is kind of more boring than last year, although I am having fun. There are not (as many) people as (there were) last year, but I am enjoying myself with my

family and friends!”

SHANIE DENNY: “Easter Day has been good so far. I spent the day with my family. But I think last year was better, because there were more kites and more people. But the day is not too bad.”
