Thousands to celebrate Easter at different locations

AS THOUSANDS of Guyanese and visitors from all walks of life flock various parts of the country on Easter Monday to celebrate the occasion, much of the excitement and enthusiasm would be at Number 63 Beach, Corentyne, Berbice. The venue will, on Monday, April 21, host the traditional celebrations and Kite Flying Competition, the annual activity highly anticipated by many families, for whom the Easter Holidays would be incomplete without a trip there to relax, enjoy sunshine, food and family fun for everyone.
This year, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce is encouraging more beach goers and kite enthusiasts to participate in the competition from which they can win many prizes.
The entry categories include the largest, smallest and most unusual kites and persons desirous of entering the contest can uplift registration forms at the Tourism Tent, close to pavilion two(2) or at the Beach Entrance toll booth on Easter Monday.
While much has been done to improve the facilities at the location, beach lovers are being urged to use the available facilities responsibly and dispose of their garbage in the bags and receptacles provided.
The Easter action at the beach is an integral part of the promotion of domestic tourism and allows for the showcasing of Guyanese tradition.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) are encouraging everyone to join in the exciting and exhilarating programme of activities planned for Easter 2014, whether taking part in traditional kite flying in the National Park, Georgetown; at Number 63 Beach and along the different seawalls; going to witness the hair-raising Easter Rodeo in Lethem, Rupununi or taking the ride of a lifetime on the renowned Pakaraima Safari, all of which assure a grand time during the upcoming holidays.
The last annual activity would not be possible without the kind support of the many sponsors, among them, Little Rock Suites, Beepat’s, Berbice Chambers of Commerce and the GTA, who all join to ensure that participants in the kite flying contest are recognised and rewarded for their efforts and creativity.
The Ministry of Tourism would like to remind all who are flying kites this Easter to do so in a safe, open area, away from utility poles and live wires.
