Though the turf ground is in Region 6, the race is open to cyclists from across the country with an expectant number of 50 persons taking part in the actual start of the race.
Asked by Chronicle Sport about the improvement in cycling in Berbice, club coach Randolph Roberts said that there are two other cycling clubs in the region which have recently started working with persons in the area.
There are approximately 25 registered cyclists in Berbice one of whom is said to be a national rider.
The coach, however, pointed out that there is a need for a park or some other facility in Berbice to assist in the enhancing of the sport since cyclists are usually using the main roadways as their practice grounds.
Recently one of the region’s cyclist suffered injuries in an accident while carrying out his routine daily practice session.
