…Police weighing whether execution or road rage
THE police are continuing investigations into the fatal shooting of designer, Trevor Rose and the injury of two other occupants of the car he was in around 05:00hrs on Sunday. The injured two, Rose’s female companion Latoya Towler, 29, and taxi driver Troy Nieunkirk, 30, are now both hospitalised.
A senior police source confirmed yesterday that investigators are still working at the crime scene at Eccles Access Road, East Bank of Demerara, where the shooting occurred, and would be making a few house-to-house visits.
When the Guyana Chronicle revisited the scene yesterday, it was business as usual, although a few blood stains were still visible on the ground.
According to reports, the only cameras that would have been able to pick up the shooting on Sunday were out of service at the time. In a discussion with this newspaper, the persons who are responsible for the cameras said that for some time now the cameras have not been working and they are being serviced.
Meanwhile, another person who operates close to where the incident occurred said that two cars may have been used in the attack; but this was not substantiated by the police or anyone else, including the driver of the car the designer was in, who was himself injured by the hail of bullets sprayed by a lone gunman.
The police have made no other statements in relation to the attack and there are no reports about any arrest in connection with the shooting.
There has been much speculation with respect to the shooting of Rose, a popular designer and entertainment promoter.
In the meantime, the Guyana Chronicle spoke to a number of persons who don’t subscribe to the theory that the killing was an execution, claiming that Rose, of 331 East Street, Georgetown was not an “enemy maker” and the killing could well be a case of road rage.
The driver of the taxi in which Rose was travelling said that he pulled up at the traffic light at Eccles and shortly after a car that was heavily tinted, pulled up alongside him and the driver began accosting him about the way he was driving.
The taxi driver said an argument broke out and the driver of the car exited the vehicle and opened fire on the occupants of his car, killing the designer and injuring himself and the designer’s female companion.
According to the driver, Rose was the last person to be shot. The first was said to be the driver of the car and then the woman. According to some persons, had Rose been the intended target, the gunman would have targeted him first.
