NCN commended but some issues need to be addressed

THE National Communications Network (NCN) Inc. has been good and this drives me to offer my few words of compliments and suggestions. NCN is now in competition and I hope that business for the state-run radio station will not be all about money. One of the things on my mind is the technical trouble. Too many times listeners are put off with poor reception and even no reception. In this modern technological age, there is no excuse for basic blunders along technical lines. I want a word as regards listening online-I have tried to get the Voice of Guyana (VOG), 98.1 Hot FM and 100.1 Fresh FM and I have never met with success. A few times I tried getting information from a few members of staff and nothing definite or conclusive ever came my way. NCN must go the internet way; the internet is a norm in today’s world.

NCN’s programme of “Sunshine Corner” should be aired twice daily. Many children are left out at the five o’ clock hour. I also feel that it can be live and it should seek to accommodate callers. This was how it was at one time. So maybe the show should be for one hour. As an adult, I am just absorbed into it.
I feel left out when your morning four to six presenter plays a number of Indian songs and he can offer nothing in terms of what the song is all about. I am not asking for a translation. I feel that to listen to something that makes little or no sense is just outright foolish. If I have seen the film from which a song is taken, then it helps. This kind of thing I get from Radio Guyana Incorporated (RGI); that particular presenter was dumped by RGI mind you. I also get the same from National Television Network (NTN). I presume that radio is more than entertainment.
NCN, particularly the new 100.1 Fresh FM must avoid those shouting deejays who have nothing good to say. Deejaying at a radio station is not about an on-air party. It calls for some class and use of standard language. What is so good about Jamaican patois?
Keep up the good work-this is my request for NCN. People like Michella Abraham-Ali, Andrea Joseph, Kean McRae, Sarah Blossom, Ron Robinson, Franklin Langhorne, Henry Singh, Mirano Issacs and Mark Watson all make a great team. Nobody beats that combination.
