POLICE are investigating a fatal accident which occurred yesterday morning at Bloomfield, Corentyne, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old girl.

Selena Anthony, 10, succumbed to injuries following a collision with a minibus and the bicycle she was riding along the Bloomfield Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. The accident reportedly occurred around 11:10 hrs.
Anthony of Lot 383, Bloomfield, died at the Port Mourant Public hospital while receiving medical attention.
Speaking with reporters following the fatal accident, relatives of the deceased stated that they do not have any knowledge as to what occurred on the road, but was told by nearby residents that Anthony was riding on the road when she suddenly collided with the minibus. It was also stated that from the impact of the collision, the driver appeared to be speeding.
The mother of the child, Monica Anthony said that her neighbour informed her that the child was hit down on the public road. The distraught mother said she immediately abandoned her chores and rushed to the public road. However, when she got there the child was already taken to the hospital.
The mother explained that she was not allowed to enter the hospital. She said: “The doctor told me she was critical and while I was waiting outside, a nurse called me and allowed me to see her in a room where I was told that my daughter is dead.”
The Guyana Chronicle understands that Anthony sustained major head injuries which lead to her demise.
She was described as a willing child and leaves to mourn her five siblings, mother, father and other relatives and friends.
The driver of the minibus is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
