Granger admits ‘dubious’ US Governance project already providing assistance to political Opposition in Guyana

OLD Kai never likes to say it, but I will go ahead nevertheless, because it sounds good – I told you all along, “the Opposition is indeed receiving support from[the] US Government”. This was confirmed by no other than the prodigy of Papa Dictator Forbes Burnham, no other than opposition leader and Baby Dictator (in training, barring age) David Granger. In an attempt to deflect attention after being exposed, the APNU strongman ordered the “once upon a time newspaper” to publish an article to “bamboozle” Guyanese yet again. The Kaieteur editor, who was also a former Burnham boy, jumped up and saluted Granger, shouting “Yes sir! Yes sir! Would you be needing anything else, Sir? Like, how many lies do you need to go with that order?”.

Several minutes later, still dazed and in total awe, thinking that he had just witnessed a vision of Papa Dictator, “The once upon a time editor” hurried about the task, humming along merrily this tune (In time to come we will have a Burnham reincarnate; in time to come de US will again help us to overcome; in time to come we will go back to de ole days; in time to come I will once again enjoy rice flour with sugar cake…)

Next thing you know, big headline proclaiming that “APNU, which is what you get after the PNC puts on its makeup” did not receive any cash from the US “governance project”. Who these people think they are fooling? When the US doled out cash to Granger’s crew in the past, same thing they said. Then the secret documents revealed otherwise. So should we believe Granger this time around? Hell No! Now Old Kai has a song for these APNU and USites, “Don’t get me confused because i aint called nobody parasites. No, No! You fooled me once, but you aren’t going to fool me twice. No, No! I aint going back to eating only salt and rice!…”

But back to business. In the article of denial, Granger makes a damning admission which should raise serious concerns and confirms without a doubt, the direct political assistance being offered to the Opposition by the US Governance project. Granger is quoted as stating that “The only assistance required (of the US project) was with voter education (his term for political campaigning), given that APNU did not have the resources to roll out any wide-scale programme.”
He then admits that they received such help in at least one public meeting, in Anna Regina. He then tries to justify the covert, US-funded operation to enhance the fortunes of his proposed “dictatorate” of our country by talking about the need of voters, particularly the younger generation to be ‘au fait’ with the “complex arrangements’ of the local government elections process.

But hold a minute here! Is this not the responsibility of the Guyana Elections Commission?
This is what the commission has done all along, through its public education exercises. Is Mr. Granger admitting that with help from some US allies, they are subverting the work of the Guyana Elections Commission?
This is a dangerous admission as we all know where that led to in the past, when the “elections body” was subjected to the whims and fancies of the political directorate of the day and the lack of independence led to the rigging of elections. Mr. Granger is a historian but more importantly he has “first-hand” knowledge.

Is this what the US is supporting in its ‘Democracy Project’? They should answer why they have not diverted all those millions to GECOM instead, where all the political parties are represented and have a say in how the elections body is managed. Why this secretive project? Is it so that there will be less of a paper trail as to where all the millions went? Is this why APNU and AFC fought so hard against the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism amendment?
Is this the kind of transparency the US is advocating? Where are the Transparency International experts now? Are they all asleep? This latest admission by Granger raises more questions than answers. Old Kai is keenly awaiting those answers!
