THE Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) yesterday said that during 2014, major overhauls are scheduled on 11 of the 13 Wartsila operated and maintained units.According to the power company, seven of these overhauls are due by the end of July 2014, when the new generation facility at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast of Demerara, is expected to be commissioned.
The GPL in a statement added that the overhauls are performed in keeping with manufacturers’ recommendations and are expected to last for 10 days each.
It noted that they also form part of GPL’s rigid maintenance programme aimed at ensuring efficient and reliable power generation.
GPL said that overhauls are executed to ensure that all engines are in proper working condition to facilitate a reliable supply of electricity to their valued customers and to mitigate any potential risks that may result from lack of maintenance.
The power company also gave assurance to all customers that they will continue to maintain all of their generating engines across the country to ensure their continued reliability to supply quality electricity.
The company expressed thanks to all customers for their support in 2013 and is encouraging continued support and cooperation in 2014.
