POLICE have reported that 37-year-old Fazal Baksh of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice died when he lost control of the motor cycle he was riding along the D’Edward public Road, West Coast Berbice and crashed into a utility pole.Baksh was returning home from a wedding house at about 03:20 hrs on Sunday when he met his demise. He is Guyana’s latest road fatality.
Relatives said the father of three was under the influence of alcohol because he had been consuming beers at the wedding house. “He accelerated a bit too hard on the dangerous turn at D’ Edward and slammed into a light pole,” a relative said.
The relative said the former student of Cotton Tree Primary School had been a labourer in the employ of a rice farmer. He reportedly had domestic problems, which had resulted in him going to the wedding house, where he imbibed excessively before attempting to return home.
