— the only station that airs live broadcasts in Berbice
DAVE’S Television Station (DTV-8) Inc. dubbed the ‘Berbice Super Station’ celebrated its 20th Anniversary on Saturday, December 21, with an exhibition and cake sticking exercise which brought together the management, past and present staff, and associates under one roof to mark the memorable occasion.

DTV-8 is a subsidiary of Dave’s Portrait Studio, which was established in 1947 by the late pioneer in photography, Mr. David Theophilus Rambarran, who, along with his sons, established a video production section in 1985.
The entity is located at Lot 8 Main and St. Ann Streets, in the heart of New Amsterdam, Berbice; and the signal is accessible in the entire Berbice county, while some people in certain areas on the East Coast of Demerara and Essequibo also claim that they are able to access the transmission of the television station.
DTV-8 emphasises broadcasting of shows that the entire family can enjoy. It is a community-oriented entity that is committed to informing, entertaining and educating its viewers. The station also promotes sports and cultural, religious and social activities within Berbice.

BROADCAST
The station’s main source of income is derived from airing commercials, greetings, announcements and locally produced religious, cultural, educational and social-interest programmes.
DTV-8 also broadcasts a weekly programme for the Government Information Agency (GINA), which highlights events and proposals in the country. There is also the immensely popular segment of birth and anniversary requests, death announcements, dedications, memoriams, and advertisements.
Channel 8 News is produced and aired three times per week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The newscast can also be accessed via YouTube.
DTV-8 is the only television station in Berbice that broadcasts events from the actual venue, enabling its viewership to enjoy on-the-spot action. This development started in the year 2000, during the first ever Town Day event in New Amsterdam.
INTERNET AND MANAGEMENT
DTV-8 can be accessed on its website: www.dtv8.net and on Facebook at facebook.com/davestv8. Facebook serves as an interactive medium between viewers and company representatives, especially during live programmes.
DTV-8 Inc. is run by a Board of Directors comprising the Rambarran family — which includes the children and grandchildren of the late David and Stella Rambarran; the Board is headed by Ms. Anita Rambarran.
During the exhibition on Saturday, goodies were distributed to those who visited the DTV booth, and prizes were handed out to those persons who called in and gave correct answers during the traditional DTV “Christmas Countdown” — a live question-and-answer programme aired for 30 minutes and hosted by Gregory Rambarran during the last five Wednesday evenings before Christmas.
