THE use of any plant as a natural aphrodisiac, like the use of any herbal remedy, should be guided by some knowledge about the levels of concentration of its various biochemical properties and what regularity of intake of these properties is safe.Dr. Iamei Aowmathi of the Bajka Health Movement, the only in-patient and out-patient traditional and alternative medicine health clinic in Guyana, suggests that anyone undertaking to use a herbal remedy should first seek the assistance of a certified alternative medicine practitioner.
He said the indigenous peoples of Guyana have, over hundreds of years, mastered the safe use of these rainforest herbs. “Like all other elements of the rainforest, our indigenous peoples are natural experts in recognizing these herbs, and in utilizing them whenever they have cause to,” he opined.
The normal coastlander or city dweller should seek advice before using these plants.
He said that with natural products such as herbs, it is not possible to give an exact dose that would apply to everyone. Each person will react differently to the dosages given, since each person has a unique biochemistry. Factors such as sex, age, physical health, mindset and other supplements or medicines taken will affect the way an individual responds to the herbs.
“Much (also) depends on the diet of the user. Using certain foods can nullify the use of natural herbs,” he said. He said that persons using these herbal remedies, particularly those intended to combat impotence, need to change their diet for the plants to deliver best results.
“When you are using these herbs, you have to stop eating foods with high cholesterol. They work better with a vegetarian diet. Additionally, your system needs to be cleansed,” he declared.
The Bajka Health Movement is based at Triumph, East Coast Demerara, and holds a clinic for curing patients with erectile dysfunction through the use of natural herbs. The treatment also includes psycho-analysis of the patient, since the condition may be due to psychological factors such as stress.
“A man should be able to function sexually until he dies,” Dr. Aowmathi says.
As a further precaution, these herbal preparations should not be taken in conjunction with conventional medicines.
Naturally, he touts natural aphrodisiacs over Viagra.
He says that Viagra is generally good, but it has the potential to increase the blood pressure of a user, and quite a few users are dying from the dramatic increase in blood pressure.
The Bajka Health Movement offers in-patients and out-patients mixtures of aphrodisiac herbs which have other natural ingredients; such as blacksage, which is known to curb high blood pressure. Dr. Aowmathi said that, in the absence of expert advice, users can start with small doses of the mixtures and then gradually increase the dosages and frequency of use, depending on the results they are getting.
There are capsules made from the natural aphrodisiacs, namely: Kapadulla, Granny Backbone, Sarsparilla, Cockshun and Monkey ladder, but the liquid form, he said, is always more effective.
