THE National Youth Parliament yesterday sat for its 13th sitting at the Guyana International Conference Centre at Liliendaal, and the issues of regulation of the media and infrastructural development dominated the debates which saw 53 participants mimicking representatives of the government and opposition benches in the National Assembly.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle yesterday afternoon, Michael Young, a consultant to the 13th Parliament, said that during the debates representatives came up with a resolution that the local media needs to be regulated and should be more responsible and transparent in its duties with a focus on securing the nation’s development.
The issue of infrastructural development did not escape the young parliamentarians who at the end of the debate called for national acceptance and embracement of infrastructural works and developmental programmes, according to Young.
The former Prime Minister within the National Youth Parliament also pointed out that the decision to take the issues of the media and developmental works to the youth parliament was largely to get the ideas and views of the younger generation with respect to the issues. Other issues which were up for discussion included juvenile delinquency.
