Venezuelan women fined $30,000 each for illegal entry

TWO Venezuelan women, yesterday, pleaded guilty to entering Guyana illegally and were each fined $30,000.Through an interpreter Genesis Fraser and Melanie Rodericks admitted that they entered the country by sea without the authorisation of an immigration officer last November 11.

The duo confessed that they came by sea and disembarked, at Charity, Essequibo.
Asked, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, what was the purpose of their visit, the defendants declared they were on vacation.
On whether they can afford to pay the fine which carries an alterative of three months imprisonment, both women replied in the affirmative.
