Social Sciences, Natural Sciences battle it out at UG Inter-Faculty sports

THE heat was on between the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Natural Sciences as the two battled it out at the Guyana Defence Force ground last Saturday for this year’s title in the University of Guyana Inter-Faculty Athletic Championships.

With final results still not expected to be released until tomorrow the cookie could crumble either way, given the tight race that played out through out the day between the two faculties
The defending champions, Social Sciences led the scores earlier on Saturday after wins in the men’s 100m, 200m and 800m races.

National distance man Cleveland Forde representing Social Sciences made light work of the 800m in which he finished in 2:07.6s, just ahead of compatriot Kiev Chesney who followed two seconds behind. Natural Sciences managed to come in third place in the race after Dane Johnson ran a 2:17s finish.

In the female 800m, Natural Sciences’ veteran runner Alexis Williams found herself relegated to second place behind Health Sciences’ Nikita Wilson, who won in 2:56s.

Wilson and Williams were at it again in the 3000m, where they saw repeated results as Wilson claimed the race in 16:55s; Natural Sciences took third through the performance of Nandanie Jerry.

In the sprints, Social Sciences also fared better on the men’s side carrying away first and second places in the 100m and 200m races.
Owen Adonis championed both the 100m and 200m, while Floyd Phillips took second in the 100m and Kadeem Peters in the 200m.

Representing the Faculty of Technology, Kim Chan’s 13.1s run of the 100m turned out to be enough for a win, leaving Natural Sciences Kezia Bess for second.

Bess took another second in the 200m this time preceded by Social Sciences Kiswanna Jeffords, who also won the female long jump where Natural Sciences brought second and fourth.

Natural Sciences also brought first place in the females 400m.
