UNICEF is committed to investing in the survival, development and protection of the vulnerable children of Guyana, according to Guyana and Suriname Representative of the international body, Ms. Marianne Flach.

Addressing a recent gathering at the University of Guyana, Berbice Campus (UGBC) at Tain, Corentyne, Ms. Flach commended the university for introducing a degree programme in Social Work at the campus and underscored the move as a step closer to putting trained professionals in the field to address issues regarding vulnerable children.
“To the Department of Social Work and Faculty of Social Sciences, given your key role in being part and parcel of social and human development, UNICEF joins with you in seeking to effect innovative solutions for preventing, treating and responding to violence. We are keen on working and strengthening our existing relationship with you, especially as it relates to children,” she assured.
REVIEW
UNICEF will be reviewing the work of the Department of Social Work on an annual basis to determine what level of support is needed for further development in child protection, she noted.
And she added: “Give of your best in the execution of your duties; we wish you well as we anticipate continuous results in child-related matters.”
