A SIXTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD MAN, Godfrey Lammy, of Lot 5 Laing Avenue, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged with attempted murder. The accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge that said, on Saturday, October 26, on Wellington Street, also in Georgetown, he committed this offence on Denise Hope.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the court that the victim, a street vendor, was conducting her daily business when the accused approached her from behind, held her by her neck and stabbed her with a knife also in the back.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant and the accused previously shared a relationship but she could not appear in court since she is still hospitalised.
He successfully objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and the penalty attached, causing Lammy to be refused pre-trial liberty until November 14.
