On the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha… May we be reminded of the need to help others

Written by Madame Deolatchmee Ramotar, First Lady
I EXTEND greetings and best wishes to all Guyanese, but especially to the Muslim community celebrating Eid- ul- Adha.
Each year, when this celebration comes around, I am deeply touched and moved by the numerous acts of generosity and charity shown by our Muslim Brothers and Sisters to those in need.

This defining feature of Eid- ul-Adha reinforces the conviction that we are social beings and the afflictions of our fellow human beings should affect us all.

In the face of misfortune suffered by others, we are all called to be their keepers and to reach out to them with acts of gentleness, humility and kindness. We do not need to be rich or lavish to show consideration to others. By extending a loving and caring hand to those experiencing need, misfortune, pain, grief and loneliness, we can help to make their pains lighter and more bearable.
On this special occasion of Eid- Ul- Adha, may we be reminded of the need to help others, to shoulder the burdens and worries caused by misfortune or missteps. And may we reach out to them with the purest of hearts and the noblest of intentions.
Happy Eid- Ul- Adha to all!
