Nigerian national deported from Guyana – convicted of infringements committed with regard to Immigration Laws of this country

NIGERIAN national, Mr. David Nduka was deported from Guyana due to infringements committed with regard to the Immigration Laws of this country.

According to a statement yesterday from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Nduka applied for a Republic of Guyana Passport at the Central Immigration and Passport Office on Thursday August 15, 2013, where he presented a passport application form and Guyana Birth Certificate #471 in favour of John Clarke.
Upon questioning, Mr. Nduka was unable to produce his correct address and the correct names of his parents and it was detected that his accent was uncommon for that of a Guyanese national.
The ministry noted that upon further questioning, Mr. Nduka stated that he was a Nigerian national and that he came to Guyana on a small boat from Suriname. He handed over his Nigerian Passport which had no Guyana Immigration Entry Stamp. He further stated that while in Guyana, he met an individual called ‘Joseph’ who informed him that he could assist him in obtaining a Guyana Passport.
Mr. Nduka had met with Joseph on Wednesday August 14, 2013 and obtained a Passport application form and Guyana Birth Certificate. The birth certificate contained genuine information but was fraudulently obtained. Mr. Nduka could not provide Joseph’s correct name or address.
On Friday August 16, Mr. David Nduka was charged with:
(i) Having arrived in Guyana by Sea Disembarkation without the consent of an Immigration Officer: Contrary to Section 34 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 14:02
(ii) Making a False Declaration for the purpose of Procuring a new Passport: Contrary to Section 34 (3) (c) (i) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 14:02
He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates Court two (2) before Her Worship Ms. Ann McLennon, where he pleaded guilty to both charges and was instructed to pay a fine of G$50,000 or serve six months imprisonment. Mr. Nduka paid his fine and was escorted to Springlands Immigration where he was deported.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Central Immigration and Passport Office of the Guyana Police Force, stands committed to enhancing the security of Guyana’s borders and meting out punishment to offenders in accordance with the Immigration Act Chapter 14:02.
