DESMOND Sancho, a father of three, was on Monday, September 16, sentenced to two months imprisonment for assaulting his common-law wife, Jennifer Hatton.

He appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Alli at Vigilance Court, East Coast of Demerara and pleaded guilty to the offence.
Given an opportunity to speak, prior to his sentencing, Sancho declined to proffer any mitigating reasons why he should not be given a custodial penalty.
The 27-year-old man (no address given) was charged with assaulting Hatton to cause her actual bodily harm.
According to Police Inspector, John Singh, prosecuting, investigations revealed that the couple, who live in the Vigilance Squatting Area, had an argument which resulted from Sancho’s refusal of Hatton’s request for a pack of gaming cards.
The prosecutor said Sancho became annoyed and dealt the woman several cuffs and kicks about her body.
