Court overrules objection, defendant granted bail

MECHANIC David Gobin, who gave his address as Lot 33 Bel Port, East Coast of Demerara, was put on $100,000 bail yesterday, after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, particulars of the offence said he committed it on Saturday, September 14, when he harmed Deonauth Persaud.
Police Sergeant Ramsahoye Rambajue, prosecuting, told the court that the virtual complainant and the defendant have been known to each other for a period of time but do not share any friendship.
The prosecutor said, that day around 18:30 hrs, Persaud went to ‘Big G’ Shop in Bel Air, Georgetown, where he purchased a quarter bottle of vodka and a serving of chips.
After he finished consuming what he bought, he was on his way home when the defendant followed him and pelted a brick which struck him on the left side of his face.
Persaud fell to the ground and his brother took him to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for medical attention and he was admitted a patient, the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor had objected to the grant of pre-trial liberty for Gobin, citing the likelihood that he may interfere with the witness but his objection was overruled and the case has been adjourned to October 3.
