LEADER of the Opposition, Brigadier David Granger met military veterans last weekend to discuss matters affecting former members of the Guyana Defence Force.
According to a statement from Mr. Granger’s office, veterans expressed concern about the challenges which some of their former comrades-in-arms in Guyana faced. They were concerned particularly with those who required special attention and medication.
“Granger shared their concern and reminded them that he had drafted a 10-point plan to improve the lives of ex-soldiers over 14 years ago. The plan, which had been presented to the government, included, among other things, the establishment of a National Veterans Commission and a Veterans Administration Department in the Guyana Defence Force,” the statement said.
Granger, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Harmon, thanked the President of the XGDF Association Ms Cheryl Tappin for her invitation to meet his former colleagues. He lauded the veterans on their resolve and resilience in maintaining a vibrant organisation in New York for over two decades.
