Two men charged after incident involving one’s wife

A MAN who intervened in a confrontation between a pregnant woman and another man appeared in court yesterday, on an assault charge.

Before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Francis Spellen, 39, of Lot 60 Regent Street, pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on September 4, also in the city, he assaulted Sheldon Grant.
Spellen declared he only parted Grant and his six months pregnant wife at his workplace.
He said he and Grant are both inspecting officers but his pregnant wife, Deesha and the other man were arguing and got into each other’s face.
“All I did was part them and, when I turned around it was like a big thing everyone was staring,” Spellen explained.
He said he did not think it was a serious situation to be heard in court as it is an easily resolved matter.
However, Grant, of Lot 6 East Ruimveldt, in Georgetown, too, who is charged with, allegedly, assaulting Deesha Spellen on September 4, pleaded not guilty, claiming that Francis Spellen pushed him into a wall and he wanted to press charges against him.
Grant alleged that Deesha Spellen was pointing her hand in his face on the day of the incident but she was not charged.
The magistrate bonded both of the men to keep the peace and ordered them to return on September 23 for trial.
