Liang Avenue murder accused to know fate today

STRAVO Evans, accused of murdering Pascal Johnson at Liang Avenue on January 3, 2010, is contending that he is being accused of a murder he did not commit, is being indicted on the evidence of a woman he does not even know, and is saying that he was somewhere else at the time of the crime.

He led an alibi defence before Justice Navindra Singh at the Demerara Assizes; and will know his fate today, when the judge is expected to sum up the evidence to the jury and hand over the case to them for their consideration and verdict.
Mrs. Teshana Lake is conducting the case for the prosecution.
Among the witnesses called for the state is one, Lisa Ann Nurse, who testified that on January 3, 2010, she was at Laing Avenue when the accused — whom she used to see around — turned up with a nine-millimetre-caliber gun.
She said she had known Johnson for about seven years, and had had a relationship with him for about three years; so when the accused came up to her, she told him that Johnson was not doing her anything, and that he must leave him (Johnson) alone. But, anticipating that something would happen, she went to a nearby shop for help, from where she heard the sound of a gunshot.
When she returned to where she had left Johnson, she saw him lying on the ground with a hole in his head. She also testified that the accused warned her not to talk, or else he would harm her and her family.
In a statement from the dock, the accused denied the story, alleging it to be untrue and stating that he did not know the girl.
The state’s case is that the accused, Stravo Evans, committed the offence of murder at Georgetown when he allegedly murdered Pascal Johnson.

Attorney-at-Law, Peter Hugh is defending.
