Braving illness Priyanna gave her all when she came up against Jamaica’s Shezelle McTyson and took her out in a two set ending 21 – 11, 21 – 13 to medal for a fifth consecutive year at the Caribbean championships.
Meanwhile, the 11 year old is also coming back home with a silver after she finished second in the mixed doubles competition when she teamed up with Trinidad’s Leon Cassie. Ramdhani and Cassie had a 22 – 17, 21 – 13 win against the Domincan Republic team of Edision Ramirez and Mileiki Munoz.
Cadogan won her gold when she teamed up with Suriname’s Erisa Bleau to take out the contenders 21 – 17, 21 – 11.
However, things were not as promising on the boys’ side.
Over in the boys’ category, the Guyana team suffered a number of losses as the singles competition proceeded throughout last week.
After making it into the second round of the boys’ under 17 singles, Narayan Ramdhani defeated Puerto Rico’s David Ortiz 21 – 3, 21 – 2 to move into the quarter finals, but was stopped at this point by Jamaica’s Shaquille Palmer when he went down 21 – 11, 14 – 21, 16 – 21.
In the boy’s under 17 doubles Jonathan Mangra shared in defeat with Narayan after the pair was ousted by Jamaica’s Shane and Sean Wilson 21 – 11, 21 – 11 in the semi-finals.
Narayan again lost in the boys’ under 19 doubles where he teamed up with Noel Shewjattan and lost to Aleandra Solas and Pedro Santana. Shewjattan lost in the boys’ under 19 singles.
With competition set to conclude today, Guyana is expected to end the competition with some eight medals, according to reports coming out of Puerto Rico from the team’s coach, Gokarn Ramdhani.
