ACTING Commissioner Leroy Brumell admitted, yesterday, that the several recent execution-style killings are of concern to the police.
Responding to reporters’ questions at a press conference hosted by Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, at the Ministry, in Brickdam, Georgetown, the Top Cop said the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is proactive and is working assiduously to solving the crimes.
Speaking about the Diamond, East Bank Demerara murder, in which businesswoman Sirmattie Ramnaress was killed at her home, Brumell said the investigations started with the reputed husband, policeman Collin Bailey, and continued as if “it was through a fine teeth comb.”
The Commissioner revealed that the close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the Diamond area are all working, but no footage in relation to that killing was taken.
He stated that the police file on that probe is expected to go to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, shortly.
The dead 36-year-old Ramnaress was discovered, in the lower flat of her posh residence, by an employee who turned up for work, as usual, on August 31, 2013.
Her corpse bore stab wounds, the throat was slit and it appeared that she had also been beaten on the head.
Was ransacked
Her home was ransacked and the bottom flat drenched with dieselene but not set afire, despite a storage bond behind being gutted by a blaze that was doused when summoned firefighters arrived at the location.
Ramnaress, who lived in the house alone, had been, allegedly, seen by neighbours sweeping the yard within the property which was well protected by alarm systems and a huge fence.
However, although there were surveillance cameras, images from them are missing, as well as cash and jewellery.
Neighbours did not hear any distress calls from the woman’s home nor did they see anyone entering or leaving the premises.
Police reported that, about 10:00hrs on August 31, the body of Ramnaress was found in her house with injuries to her head and left hip and her motor vehicle had been abandoned at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
