According to Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) president Christopher Matthias, who was recently appointed a member of FIFA’s Development Committee, McIntosh’s visit is primarily to see how FIFA’s GOAL Project money which the GFF received some years ago, has been spent.
Matthias said FIFA is very concerned about the progress the GFF has made since receiving the money years ago.
According to Matthias the (GFF’s) “Goal Project is of much concern to FIFA since a lot of money has been spent before I took office and there is no value for the money spent.”
The GFF head said McIntosh is expected to inspect the site for the Goal Project today to see what has been done to date. He, however, said there is still some money in the GFF’s coffers and this will be used to fence the perimeter of the site which is situated on the East Bank of the Essequibo River near Parika.
Matthias who recently returned from a FIFA Development Committee meeting in Zurich, disclosed that he will be leaving for another such meeting in the Cayman Islands at the end of October. He would be accompanied by GFF general secretary Noel Adonis.
Asked what came out of the meeting he attended in Zurich all he would say is the GFF is expecting a document soon from the world governing body with requirements as regards development and infrastructure.
Asked to elaborate, Matthias declined and instead said when McIntosh holds his press conference tomorrow he (McIntosh) would inform those present about FIFA’s requirements.
“Let him (McIntosh) talk first and then I’ll speak after,” Matthias said. (Michael DaSilva)
