Such is the case with the Shalom Mission, headed by overseas-based Guyanese Pastor Partab Singh, and initiated four years ago after Pastor Partab, in his travels around Guyana, noticed the evident poverty faced by many with whom he interacted.
In a recent interview with the Guyana Chronicle, Pastor Partab said Shalom Mission has been operating for the past four years, assisting the underprivileged in several communities around Guyana through distribution of school supplies, first-aid items, medical assortments and other forms of assistance.
The Shalom Mission has been well received in areas like New Forest, Canje, Berbice; Good Hope, East Coast Demerara; Lancaster/Unity Mahaica, ECD; and in Mahaicony, ECD, and many other districts.
Pastor Partab said that when the Shalom Mission visits a village in Guyana, reports on the poverty observed are relayed to the Bronx Church of God in New York, USA, which assists in garnering items for donation to that village. The items are subsequently shipped to Guyana for distribution, Pastor and Mrs Bibi Partab also giving major personal contributions to the cause.
Pastor Partab said response to the charitable efforts has been phenomenal around Guyana. The Shalom Mission has also been able to teach the local youths suicide prevention techniques, and is planning to start several special projects here in Guyana, but is severely affected by lack of available land to make those initiatives a reality.
He said the available land in the area of the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, though very distant, would be considered for agricultural purposes.
While the Shalom Mission is making a difference in the welfare and existence of many Guyanese, the body is appealing to Corporate Guyana to support and help expand its operations.
