Diamond businesswoman’s murder… : Fingerprints taken, several questioned but no arrest yet

CRIME Chief Seelall Persaud has said that, so far, police have processed the scene where businesswoman Sirmattie Ramnaress was murdered and lifted fingerprints which are still to be compared.

The Deputy Commissioner (Crime) said not so good fingerprints were also taken from the victim’s vehicle, which was found abandoned at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
Apart from those actions, several persons of interest were questioned but no arrests have yet been made although the probe is still active.
Persaud explained that, despite the fingerprints of the woman’s reputed husband, Collin Bailey were found in her house, he was a frequent visitor to the home and is not considered a suspect.
A post mortem revealed that Ramnaress, whose body was found at her Lot 2430 21st Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara address, died from a ruptured spleen and brain haemorrhaging.

POSH RESIDENCE
The 36-year-old was discovered in the lower flat of her posh residence, by an employee who turned up for work, as usual, two Saturday mornings ago.

The corpse bore stab wounds, her throat was slit and it appeared that she was also beaten on the head.
Her house was ransacked and the bottom flat drenched with dieselene but not set afire, despite a storage bond behind was gutted by a blaze that was doused when summoned firefighters arrived at the location.
Ramnaress, who lived in the house alone, had reportedly been seen sweeping the yard within the property that was well protected by alarm systems and a huge fence.
However, although there were surveillance cameras, footage from them is missing, as well as cash and jewels.
Neighbours did not recall hearing any distress calls from the businesswoman’s home nor did they see anyone entering or leaving the place.
Police reported that, about 10:00 hrs on August 31, the body of Ramnaress was discovered in her home with injuries to her head and left hip.
