Put the people’s welfare before personal, party political ambitions

IT is time for one of the opposition parties to answer some questions.  What programmes or projects have they proposed, modified or improved upon to better the lives of supporters since being elected? Why did you not ask for clarifications earlier from or engage with Sithe Global on your concerns about the Amaila project? Did you actively try to evaluate the long-term benefits for Guyana against your reported concerns about the investor’s profit, percent of ownership, plus other concerns?

Did you propose changes or attempt to re-negotiate any of these factors or simply rejected the project as not supportable due to various specific suspicions or terms in the contract?

The final question is, which one of the opposition parties will step forward and answer these questions for the benefit of their supporters, who deserve better?  People see signs that the government is trying to do some things right without the opposition’s cooperation, and wonder how much better things could be if their leaders were to be more actively involved through cooperation, negotiation, constructive criticism and proposals than the gridlock that now exists in parliament.
It is time to put the people’s welfare before personal and party political ambitions.
