SHELDON Cheddie, 36, of Jackson Street, Tucville was last evening gunned down in his home village.
Cheddie, a former disc jockey (DJ) who played for the Slingzers sound system was reportedly drinking with some friends at the popular ‘Turning Point’ when two men drove by and open fire on him.
His friends immediately scampered for cover. The man was then picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Chronicle was informed last night that persons in the area gave chase behind the getaway car and caught up with the persons who were inside. However, one of them managed to escape while the other one received a sound trashing and was handed over to the police.
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the man has since identified himself as 33-year-old Omal Williams and claimed that he resides in Berbice.
Up to press time, the police were still trying to get from the alleged shooter the motive for the shooting and if he was “a hired gun”.
The police are continuing their investigations into the matter and the Guyana Chronicle will bring you more on this story in tomorrow’s edition.
