Region 3 moving to tackle stalled road works

CHAIRMAN of the Regional Administration, Region 3(Essequibo Islands/West Demerara), Mr. Julius Faerber has indicated that help with machinery and equipment from the Ministry of Agriculture will be needed to complete stalled road works in the region.
He said that certain road repairs in the region were undertaken by the Ministry of Public Works but recently owing to a breakdown of machinery, the works have been halted.

altResidents have expressed displeasure at the condition in which roads have been left in and this publication was made to understand that they are planning protest action.
In the meantime, Faerber is encouraging those persons to desist from picketing and asking them to be patient until an arrangement can be made with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) for the completion of the works.
Solid waste
He said that solid waste in the region is now controlled by Puran Brothers Garbage Disposal Service and all solid waste collected in the region is taken to the Haags Bosch Sanitary Landfill and unlike other regions the solid waste situation in his region is under control.

Vending
Faerber said that the illegal vending situation in his region still continues although the administration is making several attempts to rid the area of this problem.
He said that the roads leading to the Leonora Cottage Hospital and the West Demerara Regional Hospital that were once plagued with vendors have now been cleared and will remain that way.
He added that vendors have been served with notices to relocate to the tarmac built for their use, but to date they have not shown any interest in moving.
He said that while many have relocated to the tarmac, some have chosen to return to their former vending spot to ply their trade.
