Vice-president Dave Mohamed disclosed that plans are on stream to run off a Club tournament to get golfers in shape for several major tournaments planned for the remainder of 2013.
According to Mohamed, the course is in excellent shape and players can expect the greens and fairways to be in excellent condition.
Among the tournaments expected to be played off are: the annual Guyana Open, Digicel Two-Day Classic, Courts Furniture Store Anniversary tournament and the Players Cup sponsored by Citizens Bank.
Mohamed said the prolonged rainy season has taken a toll on events at the club but once tournaments resume the club will be very active again.
“The rain has kept players off the course but our intention is to keep them busy for the rest of the year,” he added.
The Guyana Open is once again expected to feature players from the United States, Canada, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago competing against Guyana’s best.
Avinash Persaud and Christine Sukhram are the defending men’s and women’s champions respectively.
The Digicel Classic which serves as a warm-up for the Guyana Open will also feature many of Guyana’s leading players as well as overseas visitors.
