CHARGE d’Affaires of the United States (U.S.) Embassy in Georgetown, Mr. Bryan Hunt has said Guyana has one of the better security regimes of the countries within CARICOM.

He offered the opinion to reporters last Friday following a certification of several persons from the sector who underwent training.
Hunt said the U.S. is very pleased with the level of implementation by Guyana of advice after personnel are trained.
While acknowledging there is always room for improvement, even in the U.S., with respect to border security regimes, he said there must be continuous and constant revisiting, changing and adding procedures to try and strengthen the process.
“I think, overall, Guyana does a very credible job, compared to the rest of the Region, based on what my experts tell me,” Hunt stated.

REASONABLE JOB
The diplomat said he was also informed that the experts, who were from the U.S., would have also mentioned that the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is well trained and do quite a reasonable job given their constraint of scarce resources.
Hunt committed to the continuation of collaboration between Guyana and the U.S. for the refining of procedures and improving the way the security forces do business.
He said the GPF and, by extension Guyana, has demonstrated, over the years, a very receptive approach to the ideas and other expert advice coming from the U. S.
Hunt said this country has also shown eagerness and willingness with respect to collaboration and this is evident when officials from the U.S. return to find implementation of recommended, new procedures.
He said the collaborative work has seen the U.S. also learning from the process, especially on the front of new trafficking in persons problems.
Despite the successes, however, Hunt said there is still much more that needs to be done, including within the United States.
