New U.S. Charge d’Affaires calls on Minister of Home Affairs

THE newly-appointed United States  Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Bryan Hunt yesterday paid a courtesy call on Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee at his Brickdam, Georgetown head office during which they engaged in dialogue relating to continued cooperation between the two countries.

altMinister Rohee, in remarks to the media yesterday, said that it was his first meeting with the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires and he updated him on matters which are of priority to the ministry. Rohee also hoped that during Hunt’s stay in Guyana the relationship would remain as good as it is now between the embassy and the ministry.
The minister added that Guyana has benefitted a lot from programmes facilitated by the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown such as the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) and he is sure that the cooperation would continue.
And responding, Hunt said he was pleased with the first meeting with the minister and looks forward to continued cooperation that is ongoing in the security sector between the two countries.
He stated that he is hoping to learn more about the challenges that are facing the ministry to ensure safety and security for all in Guyana and to find out how the U.S. can partner and continue to work closely with the ministry.
Deputy Chief of Mission Hunt is a career Foreign Service Officer with extensive service in South Asia and Africa. He served as Counsellor for Political Affairs at the US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan from July 2009 to October 2010, Principal Officer at the US Consulate in Lahore, Pakistan from July 2006 to July 2009, and Political Officer in Islamabad, Pakistan from August 2004 to July 2006. From 1996 to 2002, Hunt served in several African countries. He was the Political Officer at the US Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique from August 2000 to August 2002; Consular and Commercial Officer at the US Embassy in Gaborone, Botswana from September 1998 to August 2000; and Political, Economic, and Consular Officer at the US Embassy in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau from September 1996 to July 1998.
He has also served in the United States as Deputy Director for Regional and Security Affairs in the State Department’s Africa Bureau from October 2010 to July 2011 and as Desk Officer for Angola in the State Department’s Africa Bureau from September 2002 to August 2004.
Hunt has received various Department of State awards, including the Superior Honour Award, Meritorious Honour Award, and Franklin Award.
