Policeman’s wife found murdered in home : – attempts made to torch heavily grilled house

BUSINESSWOMAN Simattie Ramnaress, also known as Parvati Singh, 36, was discovered dead in the lower flat of her two-storeyed, 21st Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara home, which is heavily grilled and sports opaque windows.

altaltThe body bore marks of violence on the head and hip. Her home had allegedly been ransacked, and there was evidence that a flammable liquid had been used to drench the interior of the house. Moreover, a storage bond at her home was destroyed by fire, and her motor car was found abandoned at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

The gruesome discovery of the woman’s demise was made by one of her employees when he reported for duty at around 10:00 hrs yesterday and noticed smoke emanating from the bond.

Persons in the area where the late businesswoman had lived said they had seen the woman early yesterday morning as she swept her yard. They surmised that whoever had entered her property, where she lived alone, had to do so after she herself had opened the gate to them, or they may have entered from the rear of the premises.

It is also believed that the person(s) who committed the act escaped from the scene shortly before the worker who made the discovery arrived at the property.

Following the discovery, many persons from the area gathered with her family members and friends at the location after receiving the news. There was also a report by one close relative that the video footage taken from surveillance cameras around the house was missing. This publication was, however, unable to confirm that.

In a press release issued yesterday, the police confirmed that a storage bond located at the woman’s home had been destroyed by fire.

The dead businesswoman was said to be in the business of importation and distribution of various food products.

Her reputed husband is said to be a police sergeant attached to the Vigilance Police Station, and investigations into her gruesome death are ongoing.
