Winning the toss and opting to bat first in the contest which was reduced to a 10/10 affair from its original status of T20 due to an 88 minutes rain break, West Demerara Mavericks reached 78 for 7 from their allotted overs, after being 7 without loss when rain stopped play.
Balbinder Shivpersaud topscored with 25 (2×4, 20balls) and received support from Abdul Razack who made 18 (2×4) and Arvin Seepersaud’s 14, as Khan snared 3 for 13 and Khemraj Jaikarran 2 for 12 for the Surinamese lineup that included several Guyanese.
Khan returned with the bat to score an unbeaten 33which included two sixes and the same number of fours from 16 balls, which together with Christopher Patadin’s 18, guided the visitors to their revised target of 82 for 3 from 9.4 overs.
Khan and his skipper Carlos Barker who was unbeaten on 04 when his team achieved victory, ensured they did so by adding 39 for the fourth wicket from 3.3 overs, with Khan hitting a hapless looking Sudesh Persaud for two sixes and one four in the penultimate over of his team’s innings, which was the most expensive of the contest, as the bowler conceded 17 runs.
