Fifty-year-old Cornelia Ida man on trial for wife’s murder

FIFTY-year-old Ganesh Singh of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, is on trial at the Demerara Assizes for allegedly murdering his wife Krishndai Singh.

Justice James Bovell-Drakes and a mixed jury at the High Court heard that the crime was allegedly committed on June 12th, 2009.
Prosecuting attorneys are Dhanika Singh and Natasha Backer of the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The accused has pleaded not guilty and is being represented by Attorney-at-law Peter Hugh in association with Latchmie Rahamat and   Onasis Granville.
Police photographer Jomo Williams testified that he visited the scene and took photographs of the body which was later taken to the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
Witness Sgt. Narine Lall of Cove and John Police Station said that he is attached to the Complaints Section.
He said that during the month of June, 2009, he was at Leonora Police Station when he received a report from Amanda Singh, daughter of Krishndai Singh, now deceased.
He testified that as a result of the report, he assisted in the investigations. He went to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he saw the body of Krishndai lying on a bed. He examined the body and saw a wound on the left side of her chest below her breast, measuring 1 cm. He had also visited the home of Krishndai Singh at Cornelia Ida and was present when photographs were taken of the body by the police photographer.
The witness admitted under cross-examination that although he has knowledge that the police had equipment to determine blood stains, he did not cause any clothing to be analysed for human blood.
The hearing is continuing.
