MEMBERS of public and private sector organisations were, on 22 August, 2013, invited to a forum dealing with supply chain management, facilitated by certified trainers, students and graduates of the Supply Chain Management Programme and held at the Georgetown Club on Camp Street to officially launch the International Certificate in Supply Chain Management, based on the International Trade Centre Modular Learning System.
The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the technical cooperation agency of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The ITC has introduced the MLS (Modular Learning System) as an effective tool for quality training in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. The main objectives of this programme are to help organisations take advantage of new opportunities, reduce total purchasing and supply costs, and make optimum use of available resources.
This globally recognised certificate programme is now being offered in Guyana exclusively by Empretec, with specially trained ITC lecturers and consultants undertaking to conduct training; and it specifically targets persons involved in any aspect of supply chain management.
The International Certificate in Supply Chain Management includes Six (6) modules, the first of which will commence on October 1, 2013.
Persons registering for the course can learn how to maximize their resources, purchase wisely, reduce costs, and improve profitability.
Registration is currently in progress, and an orientation session for all registered students will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2013.
On June 13, 2003, the Government of Guyana, the United Nations and the Guyana Manufacturers’ Association launched the Empretec Guyana Project, which was designed to equip small business operators with entrepreneurial skills to effectively execute profitable business ventures. To date, Empretec has evolved into a not-for-profit institution operating under licence from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), with a focus on entrepreneurship and business development training.
