Brazilian admits inserting false Guyana immigration stamps in passport

GILMAR Santos Silva, a 31-year-old Brazilian national, was ordered to pay a fine of $75,000 on the charges of conspiracy and uttering a forged document when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty yesterday.

Through an interpreter the accused pleaded guilty to both offences that said between Friday, June 1 and Saturday, August 24 at Georgetown he conspired with person or persons unknown to insert two false Guyana Immigration entry and arrival stamps in his Republic of Brazil passport, number CW 455538, purporting to show that the same was issued by the Central Immigration Office, knowing same to be false.
In addition,  on Saturday, August 24 at Ogle, East Coast Demerara with intent to defraud he uttered to Constable 20806 Seepaul, an immigration officer, his Republic of Brazil passport, number CW 455538 with two false immigration entry and arrival stamps, purporting to show that the same was issued by the Central Immigration Office, knowing the same to be false.
Attorney-at-law, Paul Fung-a-fat, representing the defendant, told the court that his client is married with three children and works as a gold miner in the interior. He also noted that his client had never been convicted either in Brazil or Guyana.
In default of paying the fine, the defendant will be imprisoned for nine months.
