Father in Zeelugt chopping spree meets gruesome end –found hanging headless near home

THE decomposing body of Richard Lord was found yesterday afternoon hanging from the collarbone a couple metres from where he once lived with his reputed wife and two deceased children in Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
The corpse was headless; the head, having fallen off, had come to rest beneath his body.

altRichard Lord went into hiding after he had maimed his reputed wife and slaughtered his children after she had decided to end the abusive relationship to which she had been subjected for several years; but it was widely believed that he had been right in the Zeelugt area all along.
Yesterday’s discovery was made by three little boys from the village, who it is believed had trespassed a coconut farm to gather coconuts.
Speaking with the Chronicle after the discovery was made, Nazima, aunt of the dead children, said she received news of the discovery at about 12.45pm, and she and her husband positively identified the body to be that of the killer father Richard Lord. They reportedly were able to identify him by the pair of trousers in which the body was clad.
Nazima said the police arrived on the scene, conducted their investigations, and arranged for the man’s remains to be taken away by undertakers. According to her, ever since the man went into hiding some two weeks ago, the family had been very confident that he was still lurking in the area awaiting the return of her sister so he could kill her.
His reputed wife’s relatives had been terrified for their safety ever since Richard Lord had gone into hiding; and yesterday, his reputed mother-in-law indicated that she had been mostly afraid that the man would have returned to burn her house down.alt
Another sister, who recently gave birth, indicated that she was afraid to stay at home alone, and had urged her husband to delay his return to the interior. She said she had told her husband that she was not feeling safe with Richard Lord still at large, since he knew the entire area and even the fact that her door was not properly closed at nights, since it had a problem. She said she told him that she would allow him to return to the interior only when Richard Lord had been apprehended by the police. Yesterday she said she was now feeling secure.
His reputed in-laws say the location where Richard Lord’s body was found was a very inaccessible area, and when the manhunt had been on for him two weeks ago, he might have been at that very location.
altThey described the area where his body was found as wetland inundated with itchy vegetation.

The family was informed yesterday that the man had reportedly stood at a distance on the funeral day, two weeks ago, to witness the burial of his two children, whom he had chopped to death.
His eldest sister, Mary, visited the home of the dead children after hearing that her brother’s body was discovered. She said she had not seen him for the year, and that when she got the news from her relatives that he had hacked his children to death and seriously injured his wife, she had become instantly sick and had, days ago, undergone a surgery.
Mary said she was unable to eat and to think straight. She said she had even showed up at the home of her brother’s in-laws to offer her condolences, but had been chased away by an angry relative.
Yesterday, Bibi Nazarena Houston’s mother she was pleased that Richard Lord is no longer able to harm her or her children. She said she is now excited to see her daughter, who had been placed in a safe home until the man was brought to justice, and that she would be preparing a special room for her daughter, since she is confident that with the man now dead, the Ministry of Human Services would allow her to be reunited with her family.
Based on information reaching the Chronicle, Richard Lord had threatened to kill his reputed wife and end his life. However, after waiting and realizing that Bibi Nazarena Houston was not returning to the home following the attack, the man apparently became inpatient and took his own life.
Bibi’s relatives received a call from her minutes after the man’s body had been found. It is believed that the police contacted the ministry, which in turn contacted the woman and give her the news.
Bibi expressed satisfaction that the man who had so deeply hurt her and had killed her children was no longer a part of her life.
