THE Guyana Chronicle has been reliably informed that a Chinese national working on the Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown sustained injuries from a fall from the third floor last evening, and has been hospitalized at a private city hospital.
Efforts to speak with some of his countrymen at the worksite proved futile, despite being told that even the slightest bit of information would have been very helpful.
One who spoke a smattering of English did try to help, but after consulting with another, who seemed to be his superior, later returned to say that they cannot speak on the issue.
A visit to the Balwant Singh Hospital found one of three Chinese nationals seated in the waiting area there and conversant in English willing to talk, but on the advice of a woman, he too clammed up.
Even getting the injured man’s name, age and extent of his injury was a problem.
The Marriott-branded hotel being constructed in Kingston is one of the biggest investment projects of the Government of Guyana.
