PROMINENT Campbellville overseas-based ‘Boysie’ Bishop has returned to coordinate the Camptown Youth Organisation’s anniversary which will run from September 6 to 15 with a week of activities.
Bishop outlined the week of activities which will be centred on honouring, specially, one of the clubs past footballers, now-deceased Troy ‘Sofee’ Crooke.
He explained that in 1991 when the football club lost all their matches in the-then GFL Demico League, the ‘big-named’ players refused to return to the club the following year.
He noted that Crooke was about to migrate to the United States of America and opted to stay and play the new season for his club before leaving.
With desperation he commanded his position in the defence and steered his club to the championship crown in 1992.
In 1993, Troy satisfied himself and club mates then migrated to the USA and suffered a fatal heart attack three months later.
Camptown Football Club since has never gotten the opportunity to honour him and as such has dedicated this year’s anniversary to him.
The week of activities will commence with a Super 8 Knockout Football Tournament which will see the top eight clubs in the Georgetown Football Association contest for the Troy ‘Sofee’ Crooke Memorial Trophy.
Ansa McAl Trading Ltd under the Stag Beer brand has been the sponsor for this tournament.
Community project, church service, senior citizens’ luncheon, cultural presentation and nostalgia, a dinner and a ball will conclude some of the scheduled activities.
