In the opening game, BK Western Tigers will come up against Pele while from 20:30hrs Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will face Alpha `The Hammer’ United.
Western Tigers advanced to the quarter-final round by defeating Seawall United 2-1 in a first-round encounter of the 16-team competition while Pele got past Fruta Conquerors by a 3-1 margin.
GDF, on the other hand, came from behind to defeat Rosignol United 5-2 after leading 2-0 at the end of the first session.
Alpha United scored a 4-0 victory over Grove Hi-Tec in another first-round fixture.
The two winners of tonight’s quarter- finals will advance to the semi-final round with the first semifinal billed for Sunday and the other for August 28.
Games for Sunday (August 25) and August 28 will be supported by two women’s matches that will see the winners of the Berbice `A’ and `B’ matchup going into the women’s semi-final where they will take on either Linden or West Demerara who are set to face off in another first-round encounter.
The other teams in the women’s category are Bartica and Georgetown who have both drawn byes to the semi-final round.
For tonight’s opening game, Western Tigers will be spearheaded by their captain Phillip Rowley with support expected Gavin Wilson, Shermon David, Leroy Pedro, Randolph Wagner, Dorin Benjamin, Stellon Davis and custodian Deryck Carter.
For the feature match, Alpha United is expected to field midfielder Dwight Peters, strikers Anthony `Awo’ Abrams and Manesseh Primo, centre midfield players Anthony Benfield and Philbert Moffatt, defenders Quincy Madramootoo and Kelvin McKenzie and custodian Richie Richards.
The winning team in the men’s category will cart off $2M, while the other top three finishers will collect $1.5M, $500 000 and $300 000 respectively.
The final in the competition is billed for the GCC ground on September 1 with the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground being the alternative venue, depending on the weather.
