The matter was raised recently in the National Assembly when A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Parliamentarian, Annette Ferguson asked the minister for a definite timeline for the completion of the project.
The minister, in response, to this pointed out that there were some defects in the design and this led to a re-design, spearheaded by an engineer from the Ministry of Public Works.
The scope of works was re examined and approved by the National Procurement and Tender Administration board on August 22, 2012 and the contractor was advised.
The minister pointed out that works commenced on September 16, with a contract duration period of six months, with March 16 2013 as its completion date.
However, additional changes were made due to the boggy nature of the land, with the installation of a revetment at the sides and front catering for the most vulnerable and traffic traversing areas of the tarmac.
The driving of longer piles and back-filling all created another three-month extension which brings the completion date to this month.
When contacted, an official of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) said that the project is almost at completion stage.
