AGRICULTURE Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, is slated to deliver the feature address at today’s commissioning of the Bio Ethanol Demonstration Plant located in the compound of the Albion Sugar factory, in Berbice.
This genesis of this plant is in keeping with the Government’s vision for developing sustainable, renewable and locally available energy sources.
Bio-ethanol can be mixed with gasoline to create a blended fuel, offering the chance to significantly reduce Guyana’s reliance on oil imports.
The construction and operation of Guyana’s first commercial bio-ethanol plant is part of the bio-energy programme of the government of Guyana and is being supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The reported cost of the project is approximately $67 million.
