THE Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI) recently donated $30,000 towards a kidney transplant for Mr. Satish Gobin.
According to a BBCI release, the company received a letter dated August 13, 2013 from Ms. Shureen Ragbeer requesting financial assistance in support of Mr. Satish Gobin, her only son, to undergo a kidney transplant operation in India. She requested assistance for the medical procedure cost, air fares, meals and accommodation cost.
Mr. Satish Gobin was diagnosed with renal failure in 2010 and he had a kidney transplant in 2010 in Mumbai, India. However, despite strict adherence to recommended treatment, diligent medical follow-ups at both the Georgetown Public Hospital and his renal surgeon in India via correspondence, Mr. Gobin’s transplanted kidney has started to show evidence of transplant rejection. As such, it is imperative for Satish to be assessed by his renal transplant surgeon based in India.
After verifying the information submitted and further communications between BBCI and Ms. Ragbeer, the company then agreed to contribute $30,000 towards Satish Gobin’s kidney transplant operation in India.
The cheque was handed over on August 15, 2013 by Mrs. Bibi F. Alli, Administrative Assistant of BBCI to Mr. Satish Gobin.
The company said it was privileged to have the opportunity to make a donation towards such a worthy cause and encourages other business entities and personnel to make donations to assist Mr. Gobin’s kidney transplant operation in India.
BBCI added that it does not not only play the role of collecting tolls and facilitating vehicles crossing the Berbice River Bridge and vessels transiting through the retractor opening and under the high span but also, discharges its corporate responsibilities and more importantly played an integral part in the development of education, sports, supported national events and made donations to charitable and non – charitable organisations in close proximity to the bridge or in Region 5 and 6. The company had also sponsored events in other counties and as far as the hinterland.
In the past, the company said it has sponsored many events that benefited the communities both on the eastern and western sides of the Berbice River Bridge. Now, for the year 2013 the company has so far received 64 public relations requests and managed to approve 57 of these requests comprising sponsorships of Mashramani 2013 events; sponsorship of horse racing events; donations of trophies to various non–profit and educational institutions; facilitated tours of various schools and waived toll charges for tour buse;, sponsored cricket tournaments; made donations to the Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) cricket tournament and religious organisations together with others too numerous to mention.
