Martin shared the third place position with Trinidad and Tobago’s Ackayla Lucas that impeded Guyana making a clean sweep of all the medals in the category.
The trio added three of seven medals that Guyana won yesterday to end the Championships in second place, behind Trinidad who earned the overall title after finishing with a total of 18 medals – eight gold, four silver and six bronze. Guyana put together a total of 20 medals, divided into four gold, six silver and ten bronze.
Barbados finished third with seven medals and Dominican Republic followed with three medals.
The all-Guyanese clash in the Girls’ Under-11 final saw Clarkston going head-to-head against her doubles partner, Jackman, with whom she earlier on Monday teamed up to take the Girls’ Under-11 doubles title.
It was straight-sets wins for Clarkston who defeated Jackman 11-8, 11-9, 11-5, after she had earlier settled Martin to third place when she defeated her 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4.
Guyana also made it onto the podium over in the Under-13 category where Kristie Lopes and Miguel Wong both finished third.
Lopes was relegated to third after she lost 5-11, 5-11, 7-11 to Dominican Republic’s Idelsa Baez, who finished second in the category which was won by Trinidad’s Jasher DeGannes.
Wong shared third place with Trinidad’s Brandon Beharry.
The players were last night presented with their winning trophies and certificates of participation at the event’s closing ceremony held last evening at the same location.
Making addresses at the ceremony were Director of Sport Neil Kumar and president of the Caribbean Table Tennis Federation, Juan Villa.
Aruba made a bid for the 2014 hosting of the tournament. The bid was made by Remy De Lange, a member of the Aruba Table Tennis Association (ATTA), on behalf of Sue-Ann Leong, president of the Aruba Table Tennis Association.
