Former female international referee honoured by GFRC

GUYANA’S former female international football referee Dianne Ferreira-James (MS) has been honoured by the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) in recognition of her outstanding service to refereeing in Guyana.

altFerreria-James who was on a short visit to Guyana received the plaque from the GFRC which was presented to her by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds during the opening of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) 2013 season Sunday at the GCC ground, Bourda.
Ferreira-James served on the FIFA list from 1998 to 2012.
The leading female football official who retired from active duties last year was recently appointed to the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Referees Committee and will serve until 2016.
The Bahamas-based Ferreira-James who hails from Bartica was named as a recipient for Guyana’s fifth highest national award, the Medal of Service (MS) in 2011.
Earlier this year the GFRC also honoured four former FIFA referees. Lawrence ‘Sparrow’ Griffith, Collin “BL” Aaron, Abdulla Hamid and Roy McArthur were presented with plaques during the Annual General Meeting of the Council.
Griffith served as an assistant referee on the FIFA list from 1993 to 2003, Aaron who hails from Linden served as an assistant referee from 1996-2004.
Hamid, also a Lindener, was an assistant referee from 2002 to 2012 while McArthur served as a referee from 2002 to 2009.
