THE hearing of the murder trial of Calvin Thomas, called Calvin Bailey, for the alleged murder of 18-month old Shaquen Nero continues today at the Demerara Assizes before Justice Navindra Singh and a mixed jury.
The child, it is said, was in his mother’s arms on April 5, 2007, when the alleged offence was committed.
One of the witnesses who testified said that she saw the accused on the day in question moving his hand in a cuffing position while the mother was holding her child.
Later, she said, she heard the mother say “You see what you have done to the child.”
A police witness said that he saw the child with a vest that had a substance looking like blood and he saw two wounds on the body.
The child was pronounced dead when taken to hospital.
Attorney-at -Law George Thomas is appearing for the accused, while Tishana Lake of the DPP Chambers is appearing for the prosecution.
The hearing is continuing.
