Ovid Benjamin, NDC/IMC chairman, yesterday said the NDC/IMC are engaged in a massive clean-up exercise at the dumpsite located at Byberabo Road in First Avenue, Bartica, and are using an excavator to remove all obstacles, such as old vehicles among others things, along the roadways.
He noted that the NDC/IMC will also clean up the township itself, since garbage is a major problem in the community; and, wanting to make a change, they are hoping that residents would ensure that the place is kept tidy.
Benjamin said that, for this year, funds have been approved for the rehabilitation of the abattoir, and the NDC/IMC will construct a public convenience as well.
He explained that, annually, the NDC/IMC get a $3M subvention from the government to do community works; and, as such, the NDC/IMC will utilise the money for developmental purposes.
Benjamin pointed out that the NDC/IMC is presently looking for a suitable location to construct the public convenience; but rehabilitation of the abattoir, located at Triangle Street, Bartica, is in the pipeline, and construction thereof is likely to start shortly.
